“60 Years of Music!”

Dear Guild Members and Friends of the Guild,

Welcome Back!    It’s that time of year when we begin our 60th autumn of friendship, fun and continuing our support of the music education programs of the Greensboro Symphony Orchestra.

We will start our festivities on Tuesday, September 10, at 5 pm with a glass of wine at Guild Sponsor, The Loaded Grape (2915 Battleground Avenue). Come share a glass of wine after work and spend some time socializing with your Guild friends.

Our first General Membership Meeting and Luncheon will be held on Thursday, September 19 at 11:30 am.  Please join us for lunch at the elegant home of Rebecca Schlosser, at 908 Sunset Drive. Enjoy her beautiful rose garden in the warmth as we end summer. Look for your invitation coming in the mail soon.

After 20 years, the Greensboro community will welcome a new Music Director.  Christopher Dragon will bring his exceptional talent and dynamic leadership to Greensboro. His role will extend beyond planning and conducting the Masterworks Series; this year, Dragon will also lead several GSO POPS concerts and the annual GSO Education Concert Series, which provides approximately 50,000 music education experiences to children in the Triad area each year.

There are a number of GSO concerts happening during the month of September. Please take an opportunity to support the symphony by attending these concerts at the Tanger Center:

  • Masterworks: Wynton Marsalis Septeton Thursday, September 5 at 7:30 pm. The modern American jazz ion and his combo provide an evening of bebop, ballads and other favorites
  • POPS: The Australian Bee Gees: A Tribute to the Bee Gees! on Saturday, September 14 at 7:30 pm. Experience the greatest hits from the music of the Brothers Gibb with the Australian Bee Gees.
  • Masterworks: Gabriela Martinez, piano on Saturday, September 28 at 7:30 pm. Featured are Gabriela Martinez, piano, Wiley Sykes, castanets and the GSO.

It’s a busy September.  Don’t miss a single event!
