Recap: Welcome Back Social

We had a great time at the Welcome Back Social with around 25 people attending the event! We enjoyed four different wine selections offered by offered by Guild Sponsor The Loaded Grape. It was great to have an opportunity to get together to kick off the Guild year!

Our newest Guild member, Amber Dundee, attended the get together. Everyone was delighted to meet her, and were glad to have a young and lovely new member!

The Greensboro Symphony Youth Orchestra program is off to a great start for 2024-2025!

Annual auditions took place in late August and early September and GSYO is welcoming a fourth straight year of program growth.

Over 180 young musicians tried out and the GSYO program currently has approximately 160 students participating across three ensembles. Youth Orchestra includes approximately 80 members on strings, woodwinds, brass, and percussion, and is conducted by GSO Timpanist, Peter Zlotnick. Over the course of the season, many GSO members will serve as coaches for different sections of the ensembles.

All ensembles meet weekly on Sunday afternoons. This year, the Youth Orchestra will rehearse in the new Dean and Marilyn Greene Rehearsal Hall.

The Fall Concert will feature all three Ensembles, and will take place on November 3, at 7:00pm in Dana Auditorium. It is free and open to the public.

Debutante Family Picnic

On June 9, the 2024 Symphony Guild Debutantes along with their families and sponsors enjoyed a casual and fun evening of food and fellowship in the Parish Hall at St. Francis Episcopal Church.

Chair Donna Camp welcomed the families, giving each Deb the opportunity to introduce herself and share one thing that may surprise the guests. Families brought some of their favorite dishes to share with everyone. While many of the marshals were there, measurements were taken for the tuxedoes that will be rented through Gordons Menswear. It was a great turn out and everyone enjoyed the opportunity to meet the parents and grandparents of the Debs.

Special thanks to Laura Kilmartin for hosting the event and to Teresa Beaupre who chaired the event along with her wonderful committee members: Andrea Alemanni Grunenwald, Karen Hundgen, Charley Lanza, Brenda Macfadden, Jennifer Nowlin, Barbara Partlow and Margaret Yoder.

Deb Families Enjoy a Night at the Symphony

“A Night at the Symphony” for Guild Debutantes and their families was held on Saturday, June 8. The evening started with a pre-concert reception at the newly renovated and beautiful Marilyn and Dean Greene rehearsal hall downtown.

Laura Kilmartin chaired a great committee with Mary Beth Ebert, Bonnie Fulp and Barbara Key. Guild President Rhonda Bentz greeted everyone and Lisa Crawford, President and CEO of the Greensboro Symphony Orchestra, welcomed everyone to the new rehearsal space.  Lisa then spoke about the multi-year journey to make the rehearsal space into the very much needed and beautiful space for all the musicians to use for years to come.

After some great food, drinks and mingling, everyone walked a few blocks to the Tanger Center for the Greensboro Symphony’s performance of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. The film was featured in high definition on a giant screen, while the symphony performed John Williams’ unforgettable score. Fortunately for all the Debutante families, the great seats gave everyone a truly personal experience of seeing all the musicians and vocalists perform up close during the whole movie.  Many members mentioned that they have a new appreciation for the musicians and their talent.
