Erik Salzwedel has been a member of the Greensboro and Winston-Salem symphonies (GSO and WSS) since 1986. Occasionally, he tours and performs with the NC Symphony, Charlotte Symphony, Camel City Jazz Orchestra, and many other ensembles. He is a prolific composer and arranger, primarily of music for trombone and organ, but also for brass groups and handbell ensembles.
Erik is an alumnus of UNC School of the Arts (‘84) School of Music and holds a Master’s degree in Music from Stony Brook University (SUNY) (’86) and an Accounting Diploma from Forsyth Tech Community College (’13).
Before joining the staff of the Moravian Music Foundation, Erik was Manager of Corporate and Foundation Relations for UNC School of the Arts for 6 years; Executive Director of Arts United for Davidson County (Lexington) for 6 years; Director of Education for WSS; and, Personnel Manager/ Librarian, then Production Manager/Librarian for the GSO. Erik has managed and successfully implemented all types of programs and projects, from musical talent competitions to visual art exhibitions. The father of two daughters, Salzwedel also enjoys skating, horticulture, traveling, investing, and satire.
