Dear Guild Members and Friends of the Guild,
The Greensboro Symphony Orchestra’s Holiday Concert, with Taylor Loyd really put me in the Christmas spirit. What a fun evening! Taylor will be competing for Miss America on January 14. When she wins (just putting it out there), she will be the second Miss North Carolina to earn the title. The first, Maria Fletcher, won in 1962, when the Symphony Guild was still an idea in Barbara Cone’s mind.
We are still looking for someone to take over Nancye Milam’s duties for Tuned in Tuesday. If you might like to contribute, but don’t want the whole job, a friend or two could share the job. There is a beautiful framework in place, so stepping in will be seamless. If you are interested, please send an email to me ([email protected]), or Brooke Fields ([email protected]). You may know someone you think would be good, so feel free to nominate them. Sometimes people are hesitant to raise their hand or toot their own horn.
The Greensboro Symphony Presentation Ball will be held Thursday, December 28. Many hands are needed on Friday, December 22 for setup and Friday, December 29 for cleanup. Here is a link to SignUp Genius if you have the capacity to help. Thanks to all those who have signed up already, and to the many members who work so hard to make this event a great success.
On January 18 we will have the first General Membership Meeting of our 60th anniversary year. The location is the Pavilion at O’Henry Hotel, but space is limited so reserve your seat with a ticket now! We’ll have a very nice lunch from 11:30 – 1:30. You’ll be able to see the dresses worn by Mrs. Worth B. Hull and Mrs. William Cordes when they received the President’s Volunteer Action Award for outstanding service from President Reagan in 1985. I’ve always loved the winter holidays because family comes together. We eat delicious food and create traditions and memories. My sisters and I make many of the dishes our mom made when we grew up. We started a Google doc that preserves these recipes and added a little commentary with what memories we associate with the recipes. Now our children will have them to use when they start cooking for their families. I added a new recipe today. My friend Laura James has given us toffee every Christmas for almost 30 years and yesterday she taught me to make it (third time’s a charm).
